AllianceBernstein Hires CFO

AllianceBernstein Holding LP announced it hired John B. Howard as a senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Howard, 40, was chief financial officer and chief operating officer at AQR Capital Management. He will report to David A. Steyn, AllianceBernstein’s chief operating officer, and replaces Robert H. Joseph Jr.

Joseph, 62, has been the New York-based company’s chief financial officer since 1994 and helped guide the company through the merger of Alliance Capital and Sanford C. Bernstein in 2000. He will remain with AllianceBernstein in a senior advisory role until his retirement at the end of the year.

The hiring, announced Monday, is effective immediately.

Peter S. Kraus, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AllianceBernstein, said in a press release that Howard’s “in-depth knowledge of the asset management and the sell-side industries, as well as his international experience, make him an ideal leader of our global finance efforts.”

Howard was CFO at AQR since 2007 and was named COO in 2009.  Before that, he worked at Knight Capital Group in various financial roles in New York and London for nearly a decade, including CFO from 2003 to 2007.

AllianceBernstein is an investment management company that offers research and investment services to institutional clients, individuals and private clients.
