BNP Adds to Prime Brokerage Business

BNP Paribas hired Jeffrey Mettel as a New York-based director on its capital introduction team within its North American prime brokerage business.

Mettel previously co-founded a fund of hedge funds, Muirfield Capital Management. Earlier in his career, he worked as an investment banker for Prudential Securities and the Jordan, Edmiston Group.

The French bank also appointed Afi Lowery to manage its capital introduction efforts in the Southwest. Lowery, who joined BNP's prime brokerage team as a director in 2000, works in Dallas. Prior to BNP, she worked for NYNEXT Corp. and a hedge fund in Atlanta.

Mettel and Lowery, a founding member of Texas Wall Street Women, report to Emma Sugarman, BNP's head of Americas capital introduction.

"BNP Paribas has a strong ambition to become a tier-one prime brokerage house and will continue to invest in our business and hire talent to win market share and build a sustainable leading franchise," said Sam Hocking, global head of prime brokerage sales, in a press release. "As the only prime broker with a 'AA' credit rating, we are in a solid position to continue developing lasting partnerships with our current and prospective clients."

BNP's capital introduction group serves hedge fund clients and connects them with institutional investors.
