BNY Mellon Wealth Management has nabbed a senior vice president from Northern Trust to lead business development efforts in the firms Southeast region. Helen Nugent, who joined BNY Mellon last month, oversees a team of five sales directors across a six-state region and will be responsible for driving regional professional recruitment efforts in her role as managing director of sales, BNY Mellon announced on Monday.
Nugent, an 18-year veteran of Northern Trust, is based in Atlanta, the firm said.
At Northern Trust, Nugent held a number of leadership roles, most recently spearheading a pilot program serving not-for-profits, endowments and foundations in an initiative that became a model for the companys other U.S. regions. She also led sales and marketing teams in developing and implementing business strategy, according to BNY Mellon.

The new hire is part of the firms campaign to increase its nationwide sales force and add private and mortgage bankers and other professionals in top U.S. wealth markets. At the end of the second quarter, BNY Mellon has hired 15 of the 50 sales directors it planned to add to the advisor force by the end of 2014.
