Citizens Launches New Fund

Citizens Funds, a family of socially and environmentally responsible mutual funds, has launched the Citizens Value Fund, the company announced today.

The product was previously called the Meyers Pride Value Fund. Citizens acquired the assets of the product, which invested in companies with anti-discrimination policies for gays and lesbians, from Meyers Capital Management (MFMN 7/11/2001). The new fund will employ the broader financial, social, and environmental screening methodology currently used for all Citizens Funds. Sexual orientation discrimination will continue to be part of the diversity and equal opportunity screening process, according to Val Dingle, vice president of marketing.

The Value Fund will be managed by Shelly Meyers, who managed the Meyers Pride Value Fund since its inception in 1996. Meyers’ approach to socially responsible investing is consistent with Citizen’s philosophy, according to Citizens. "I think the strongest players in the long-term performance arena are companies that value and respect their employees, their environment, and their communities," Meyers said.

The Citizens Funds portfolio now includes six equity funds, an intermediate-term bond fund and a money market fund.
