Distribution Study Planned

Financial Research Corp. of Boston and PricewaterhouseCoopers of New York are undertaking a study on mutual fund distribution.

The firms are trying to enlist about 50 firms to participate in the study, which will involve a series of interviews and a pre-interview survey that will capture the basics of companies' distribution structures and costs, such as how many wholesalers they have and how much they spend on advertising.

From the study, fund companies will be able to determine how their marketing and sales costs compare to those of their competitors and how much it costs to develop relationships in various distribution channels.

The study is expected to be completed by mid-summer.
