Dow Jones Launches BRIC Index

Dow Jones has launched an index that tracks the 50 largest companies in Brazil, Russia, India and China, called the Dow Jones BRIC 50 Index. It will invest in 15 companies in Brazil, India and China and five in Russia.

Dow Jones has already contracted with a number of asset management firms for the index to be the basis for mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and other products, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Although emerging-markets funds and stocks have fallen steeply in value in the past few weeks, their three-year run is still attracting investors' attention.
