Dow, Nasdaq Give Ground Again

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lopped off 78.48 points to finish at 13,046.14 Thursday as investors reacted to some disconcerting economic data at home and abroad.

The Nasdaq fell 12 points to end at 3,063.32 while the S&P 500 lost 10.11 points to close at 1,392.78.

In economic news, new unemployment claims fell 5,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, a four-year low, according to the Labor Department. Most pundits were predicting an increase to 354,000 claims. Also, the four-week moving average for new claims fell 1,250 to 355,000.

Leading U.S. economic indicators improved 0.7% in February, according to the Conference Board, mostly due to reduced jobless claims. The reading for January was revised to 0.2% from a previous consensus estimate of 0.4%.
