Dow, Nasdaq Wrap Up Worst Week So Far This Year

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 14.61 points to close at 13.060.14 Thursday, putting the finishing touches on its worst one-week performance of 2012.

The Nasdaq composite managed to gain 12.41 points to end at 3,080.50 while the S&P 500 trimmed 0.88 points to finish at 1,398.08.

While Wall Street anxiously awaits Friday’s key March jobs report, investors got a little preview of what to expect when the Labor Department reported weekly unemployment claims fell by 6,000 claims last week to a seasonally adjusted total of 357,000.

Meanwhile, consultants Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported that the number of planned layoffs at U.S. companies plunged 26.8% in March to 37,880 – way down from 51,728 in February.
