Dow, Techs Take Flight

The Dow Jones Industrial Average stormed up 211.88 points Thursday to end at 12,887.93 while the tech-laden Nasdaq and S&P 500 gained 39 points and 22 points, respectively.

In economic news, the Labor Department said weekly jobless claims by 35,000 claims to a seasonally adjusted 353,000 claims, the lowest level in nearly four years.

Meanwhile, durable goods orders rose 1.6% in June, much higher than the 0.4% increase most economists had predicted. But most of that growth came from demand for new aircrafts. Excluding transportation orders, total demand fell 1.1% for the month.
