ETF Assets Rise in Last Quarter of 2001

Assets in exchange traded funds increased steadily during the last three months of 2001, reaching nearly $83 billion by the year’s end, the Investment Company Institute reported.

ETF assets had been at $69.4 billion in October and rose to $78.8 billion by November, the industry organization said. Gross issuance, or the dollar value of ETF shares issued, increased to $8.43 billion from $5.56 billion in November.

Domestic, broad-based ETFs increased by more than $11 billion to $71.8 billion in December from $60.5 billion in October. And assets in domestic, sector-focused ETFS were at $8.2 billion in December, up from October’s figure of about $60.5 billion.
