Evergreen Names Former Judge to Board

Shirley Fulton, former North Carolina Superior Court judge, is now a member of Evergreen Investments’ board of trustees, the company announced.

The addition of Fulton, a partner at law firm Helms, Henderson & Fulton, makes Evergreen's board 90% independent. The board's chairman, Michael Scofield, is also independent. Evergreen, the investment management wing of Wachovia, had almost $250 billion assets under management as of March 31, 2004.

"We found Shirley to be the caliber of person we were looking for to become a member of our board," Scofield said. "She embodies great business ethics and is very involved in the community"

Fulton is involved in Charlotte, N.C. performing arts boards, as well as women's and school boards. She earned her bachelor's from North Carolina A & T, and her juris doctorate from Duke. She has won, among other distinctions, "Charlotte Woman of the Year," a "Judge of the Year" honor from the North Carolina Association of Woman Attorneys and the "Community Pride Woman of the Year."
