Hedge fund firm HFR Asset Management has created the position of chief marketing officer and filled it with Wilson "Bill" Santos, a 20-year industry veteran who has held management positions at such high-profile firms as Montgomery Asset Management, Fidelity Investments and Bear Stearns.

Prior to joining HFR, Santos served as executive vice president of distribution for Gartmore Global Investments, where he helped engineer that firm's switch from mutual fund provider to third-party distributor of funds, as well as separately managed accounts and alternative investment products.

The company said that in his new position, Santos will oversee HFR's distribution partners and report to founder and CEO Joseph Nicholas.
