Executive Move- TIAA-CREF Promotes Company Veteran to CIO

Scott C. Evans, executive vice president of CREF Investments since 1997, has been named chief investment officer of parent company TIAA-CREF, the No. 1 higher education and research employee retirement system in the United States.

Evans came to TIAA-CREF as an investment analyst in 1985, the same year he received his MBA from Northwestern University. He worked his way up and became the first portfolio manager of the company's CREF Growth Account in 1994.

Herbert M. Allison Jr., TIAA-CREF chairman and CEO, said of Evans: "His exemplary integrity, expertise and commitment to higher education make him the perfect choice for this important role."

Evans replaces Martin L. Leibowitz, who retired from TIAA-CREF last month.
