OppenheimerFunds Chair Murphy Joins Korn/Ferry

OppenheimerFunds Chairman John V. Murphy has joined Korn/Ferry as managing director for the asset and wealth management sector of the global financial market.

Murphy was with OppenheimerFunds for eight years, most recently as chairman, and previously as chief executive officer and president. During his tenure, he expanded the company's focus beyond traditional mutual funds to funds-of-funds and high-net-worth and institutional businesses.

Murphy also served as chairman of the Investment Company Institute. Earlier in his career, he led various businesses for MassMutual Financial Group, including its 401(k), defined benefit, annuity, international and institutional asset management businesses.

"John's leadership, expertise and deep relationships at the CEO and board level will play a critical role in raising the already-strong reputation and profile of Korn/Ferry's financial services market in the investment management world," said Michael Franzino, global market managing director of financial services at Korn/Ferry.

Michael P. Castine, chairman of Korn/Ferry's asset and wealth management sector, added, recruiting the former chairman of OppenheimerFunds "is a world-class strategic hire for Korn/Ferry."

Baron Appoints Feldman Head of Intermediary Sales

David M. Feldman, a 23-year veteran of mutual fund and financial product distribution, has joined Baron Capital Group as head of intermediary sales. He was previously a managing director and head of intermediary sales at Columbia Management, where he previously was channel manager of the financial institutions division and the financial adviser division.

"David's long history of achievement in mutual fund distribution and his understanding of our unique investment process and culture makes him an excellent addition to our firm," said Linda Martinson, president and COO of Baron.

Non-Profit Specialist Joins MassMutual Retirement

MassMutual Retirement Services has hired Brenda Van, a non-profit specialist, to support its booming retirement plan business. The western region non-profit market specialist reports to Scott Buffington, divisional sales manager and head of retirement market development.

Van spent more than 22 years with Fidelity Investments, most recently as vice president and southwest regional manager. She brings extensive experience in the healthcare, education and core non-profit markets.MassMutual's non-profit business increased more than 70% in 2009.
