Phoenix Capital Resources Names Poeta Director, SVP

John Poeta, an attorney who most recently worked for the investment banking division of a Northeast law firm, has been named senior vice president and director of Phoenix Capital Resources, the company announced.

Poeta, a 15-year legal and financial services veteran who comes to Phoenix from Griffin Financial Group, the investing division of Stevens & Lee, has what Phoenix Management Services Managing Director E. Talbot Briddell calls "an intimate knowledge of middle market transactional needs" as well as expertise in bankruptcy situations.

Poeta has his master's degree in tax law from Temple and is a board member of the Turnaround Management Association's Philadelphia chapter.

Turner Hires Martinelli As Sub-Advisory Director

Janna M. Martinelli, formerly vice president of client service at Pilgrim Baxter & Associates, has been hired by Turner Investment Partners as director of sub-advisory account management.

Martinelli, 33, who earned bachelor's degrees in both Italian and business from the University of Notre Dame, had worked with Pilgrim since 1996, just after a stint with SEI Investments in which she served in numerous positions.

A resident of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Martinelli joins Berwyn, Pa.-based Turner to act as the firm's main communicator with mutual fund sub-advisors. She will also provide feedback for the 14-year old company's intermediary distribution group team and its director, Amy D. Duling. Duling also serves as a principal at Turner Investment Partners.

Deutsche Names Evans Director of Fixed Income

Deutsche Asset Management has named Julian Evans director and sector manager in its fixed-income group, in charge of the firm's mortgage-backed securities division, including trading and analysis.

For the $107 billion fixed-income group with $26 billion in mortgages, the team turned to the former vice president and senior mortgage-backed securities trader at Times Square Capital Management (formerly Cigna) for his "talent and insight in the mortgage-backed securities area," according to Eric Kirsch, the head of fixed income management.

Before working at Times Square Capital, Evans served as a senior analyst in the global credit area at Bear Stearns, in charge of evaluating the credit risks of that firm's potential and current institutional clients. Most recently, Deutsche Asset Management reported its total assets under management of $714 billion, with $107 billion of those assets in fixed income.

Pioneer Gets New COO; Joseph Takes the Helm

Richard Joseph, the former chief operating and financial officer at Advisor Central, is now the chief operating officer of Pioneer Investment Management.

Prior to joining Advisor Central, Joseph served in the same two positions at Fleet Financial Group, where he oversaw the $30 billion Galaxy mutual funds and more than tripled the company's retail insurance business from $400 million to $1.2 billion.

Joseph will report to Pioneer President and CEO Osbert Hood, who commented, "Rich is a great addition to the Pioneer Investments team, and I am confident his presence will help strengthen our efficiency and enhance our customer service capabilities."The new COO has also served in positions at The Boston Company and State Street Bank.
