Thwaites Joins National Life To Head Mutual Fund Unit

Christian W. Thwaites, who had served as the chief executive officer of Skandia Global Funds since 2001, has left the company to become CEO of National Life Group's investment arm, which includes the Sentinel Funds. As CEO of NL Capital Management/Sentinel Management Co., Thwaites will be filling a new position.

Thwaites had been at Skandia for eight years, serving as senior vice president and national marketing director for American Skandia before becoming CEO. Before that, he worked at Monitor Group and Aetna Life and Annuity.

Two Independent Directors Named to Calamos Board

Calamos Asset Management has continued to round out its board of directors, naming G. Bradford Bulkley and Richard W. Gilbert as independent members of the audit, compensation, nominating and corporate committees. The move brings Calamos' total board membership to five.

During his 25-year corporate finance career, Bulkley founded Bulkley Capital, worked as a commercial lender for Harris Trust and formed a lending wing of what is now Bank of America Dallas.

Gilbert, who also serves as an independent director on the board of Principal Mutual Funds, was chairman and director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago from 1990 to 1995. He has also been publisher and chief executive officer of Pioneer Press Newspapers, as well as president of the Des Moines Register.

Dalaska Becomes Driehaus VP, High-Net-Worth Sales

Driehaus Capital Management has hired Todd Dalaska as vice president of high-net-worth sales, reporting to John Angley, director of sales. In this newly created position, Dalaska is in charge of chasing down business in what Driehaus calls "the rapidly growing market for high-net-worth individuals." Previously, Dalaska worked for Voyageur Asset Management, where he held several executive positions in the company's separately managed account unit. He has also been director of sales and service at Wells Fargo Capital Management.

AIM Taps Ferguson as CIO J. Philip Ferguson has been promoted to chief investment officer at AIM Investments, a position that will have him oversee the company's long-term investment operations. The 33-year industry veteran now reports to AIM President and CEO Mark H. Williamson and replaces Edgar M. Larson, who retired at the end of 2004.

Ferguson has worked at AIM since 2000, when he came aboard from Beutel, Goodman Capital Management to serve as a senior investment officer. In 2004, he was named chief equity officer.

Long-Vazquez Joins AXA As Strategic Relations VP

AXA Financial's AXA Distributors unit has named Christine Long-Vazquez as vice president of strategic relationship marketing, in charge of developing marketing programs for AXA Distributors' key clients. She will report to Laura Pantaleo, senior vice president of the strategic distribution services group.

Long-Vazquez began her career at Thomson McKinnon Securities, and she has worked at Smith Barney and SunAmerica Marketing. Most recently, she was chief marketing officer for the retail annuities division of Travelers Life & Annuity.
