Fidelity Names Strickland President of Canadian Firm

Fidelity Investments has promoted Rob Strickland, executive vice president of adviser and alliance distribution in Canada for the past two years, to president of Fidelity Investments Canada. He succeeds David Denison, who left Fidelity in January to become president and CEO of the Canada Plan Investment Board.

"Rob Strickland has a proven track record as a sales and general manager who aligns a company's strategic direction based on meeting the needs of its customers," said Fidelity Vice Chairman and COO Robert Reynolds in a statement.

AIM Promotes Laster to National Sales Manager

Andrew Laster, who joined AIM Investments nine years ago as a marketing guru and has steadily climbed through the ranks, has been tapped as national sales manager of AIM's institutional and alliance sales division. In his new position, Laster will head up the institutional sales team, which provides support to both national and regional sales teams, as well as wholesalers. Laster was hired in the company's independent and insurance dealer division, and was later promoted to key account specialist and then key account coordinator.

Dow, Dunnigan to Assist in Russell's Expansion Efforts

Russell Investment Group has named Whitney Dow director of new business partnerships and Jim Dunnigan director of marketing.

Dow comes to Russell from Financial Research Corp., where he was a vice president of relationship development. While there, he also headed up the company's 529 savings plan research initiatives. In his new spot, Dow will be charged with cultivating distribution relationships for Russell.

Dunnigan, who previously headed Pacific Life's annuities and mutual fund marketing division, will be responsible for marketing Russell's intermediary business, as well as expanding the marketing efforts of the firm's LifePoints Funds.

William D. Witter Recruits Ugolyn as President, CEO

Dean (Kip) Witter III was named chairman of William D. Witter, while Victor Ugolyn was tapped to replace him in his previous two positions, president and chief executive officer.

Ugolyn, who comes to Witter from Enterprise Capital Management, where he served as chairman, president and CEO, worked closely with Witter while at Enterprise, as William D. Witter sub-advised the Enterprise Small Company Growth Fund. Ugolyn has also served as chairman of MONY Securities Corp., and currently serves as a board member for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Gartmore Creates VP Spot, Naming Early to Fill it

Gartmore has named John Early to the newly created position of vice president of U.S. institutional and alternative investment sales. Early will report to Charles Beazley, the company's head of global institutional and alternative investments. The move is the latest in a spate of hires for Gartmore, which has seen its global assets under management rise from $800 million at the end of 1999 to $8 billion as of February 2005.

Early previously served as a vice president of the hedge fund firm Andor Capital Management. In his new post, he will focus on institutional segments, including endowments, foundations and family offices.
