Lord Abbett Taps Bartlett as Director of Growth Equity

Lord Abbett & Co. has hired Bruce Bartlett as director of growth equity investments and portfolio manager of the company's large-cap growth fund. Bartlett most recently worked for Oppenheimer Funds, where he also headed up growth equity. There, he managed $6 billion directly and oversaw the launches of several growth funds.

Throughout his 18 years of growth equity experience, Bartlett has followed a disciplined approach that emphasizes bottom-up research and companies' revenue and sales, according to Lord Abbett. The company has beefed up its growth offerings in recent years, with a mid-cap growth fund managed by Kevin Ferguson and a small-cap growth fund managed by Tom O'Halloran, both of whom are partners in the firm.

Arbor Names Stern Executive VP of Assets

Robyn Stern, formerly of Ernst & Young, has been hired by Arbor Realty Trust as executive vice president of asset management. Stern will be charged with formulating strategies for the asset management group of Arbor, which is a real estate investment trust firm.

"Her in-depth understanding of the commercial real estate industry and extensive knowledge of asset management will provide Arbor's strong management team with additional insight and expertise," said Ivan Kaufman, president and chief executive of Arbor.

Before her time at Ernst & Young, where she served as regional director of structured finance, Stern was an executive director at CIBC Oppenheimer. She started a structured finance group at Oppenheimer. She also served as a vice president and regional manager in Chemical Bank's real estate group before the company merged with JP Morgan Chase, and has served in positions at Shearson Lehman Brothers and Financial Security Assurance.

Kumar to Head Up Growth At NYLIM's Equity Group

New York Life Investment Management LLC's equity investors group has named Harish Kumar as managing director and head of growth portfolios. In his new post, Kumar will report to the equity investors group's chief investment officer, Tony Elavia.

Before coming to NYLIM, Kumar served as a portfolio manager at ING Investment Management, where he managed more than $1.2 billion in large cap aggressive growth funds. While there, he also served as skipper of other funds, and also as a quantitative analyst.

Elavia said Kumar will manage large- cap growth and aggressive growth portfolios at NYLIM, adding "his extensive experience as a growth portfolio manager and former head of research will make him a very valuable addition" to the team.

T. Rowe Price Taps Economist Oh As Analyst

T. Rowe Price hired former Department of Treasury economist Michael Oh as an analyst, and promoted its own associate economist, Julie Salsbery, to another analyst position. Both will work in the emerging market bond space.

While at the Treasury Department, Oh worked on, among other items, Iraqi debt reduction and debt relief initiatives for poor countries. Salsbery, who has worked for T. Rowe Price for "about eight years," has worked as both an associate economist and a municipal bond trader for the firm.
