Sun Life Financial Selects Friesen as CFO in U.S.

Sun Life Financial has promoted Ronald H. Friesen to serve as the chief financial officer of its U.S. division. He is currently vice president, corporate capital in Sun Life's international headquarters in Toronto.

Friesen will report to Bob Salipante, president of the company's U.S. division, who said, "Ron has been a valuable member of Sun Life's corporate finance team for over six years, and we're thrilled he'll be joining our U.S. team. He brings tremendous tax, capital and Treasury knowledge to our business, and the strong relationships he's built within our company and the international investment community will be invaluable in his new role."

Before first joining Sun Life as vice president, tax in 2000, Friesen was vice president, taxation at the Bank of Montreal and a partner at Ernst & Young.

American Century Promotes Roepke, Zindel

American Century Investments has promoted Maryanne Roepke to chief compliance officer and Jon Zindel to senior vice president, finance.

Roepke previously held the position that Zindel now fills. She first joined the company in 1982. Zindel, who was previously vice president of tax, has been with American Century for 10 years.

Kelley Becomes Head of JPMorgan Fund Services

JPMorgan Worldwide Securities Services has hired Mark Kelley as senior vice president, in charge of leading and expanding JPMorgan Fund Services, which provides custody, accounting, investment operations and administrative services for fund companies.

Kelley, who has worked in the financial services industry for more than two decades, comes to JPMorgan from Citigroup, where he was managing director and regional business head of its securities and fund services division serving 24 countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"JPMorgan, with the hiring of Mark Kelley, will be furthering its commitment to the mutual fund marketplace," said Conrad Kozak, executive of JPMorgan Securities, to whom Kelley now reports. "Mark Kelley knows the market well and will look to further expand the range of products and services, so we will clearly be recognized as a leading provider in the fund services industry."

Direxion Hires Coleman For Institutional Sales Post

Direxion Funds has hired Bennett Coleman as senior managing director of institutional sales. Coleman will help the company continue its expansion into the defined contribution and variable annuity markets and oversee the rolling out of 40 additional variable annuity and group annuity funds over the next several months. Before joining Direxion, Coleman was a managing director in the insurance services group at MFS Investment Management, where he built the business into a $30 billion practice and made MFS one of the top five companies in the variable insurance market.
