Phoenix Names Aylward President of Subsidiary

Phoenix has named George R. Aylward president of Phoenix Investment Partners, its asset management subsidiary. He will also continue serving as the unit's chief operating officer.

Aylward succeeds Daniel T. Geraci, who is leaving "to devote time to other interests," according to the company, although he will serve as an adviser to assist in the transition until Jan. 2.

Aylward joined Phoenix in 1996. He held several senior financial positions in its asset management business until 2002, when he became chief of staff for Dona D. Young, chairman, president and chief executive. He held that post until the fall of 2004, when he was named senior vice president and chief operating officer of asset management.

Augsberger Becomes COO Of MassMutual Financial

The retirement services division of MassMutual Financial Group has hired Marie M. Augsberger as its chief operating officer. In the newly created role, she is in charge of recordkeeping, plan administration and service operations, including relationship management and call centers for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance unit.

Augsberger was previously head of customer service and operations for ING U.S. Retirement Services.

Franklin Templeton Selects Lin as Director for Asia

Franklin Templeton Institutional has appointed Jack W. Lin as regional managing director, Asia, responsible for expanding the company's institutional business in the region, excluding Japan and Australia.

Lin was previously chief executive officer of Franklin Templeton Sealand Fund Management, a joint venture in China that Templeton International and Sealand Securities formed in 2004. Before that, he was a senior vice president in the firm's emerging markets group.

Lin has worked in the financial services industry for 13 years, including executive positions with Asia Vest Investment and Chinadotcom.

Directors Forum Taps Schwartz as Senior Counsel

The Mutual Fund Directors Forum has hired David S. Schwartz as senior counsel. Schwartz was previously senior counsel in the division of investment management at the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also served as an accountant with Ernst & Young and as an associate with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart.

"We are excited that David has chosen to join us," commented Susan Ferris Wyderko, executive director of the forum. "His strong grounding in mutual fund disclosure and regulatory issues, coupled with his accounting background, will contribute greatly to the forum's mission."

Bateman Now a Partner With Sutherland Asbill

Marguerite Bateman, formerly managing director of the Independent Directors Council, has joined Sutherland Asbill & Brennan as a partner in the financial services group, focusing on mutual funds, boards of directors and governance, best practices and regulation and compliance.

Before joining the council in 2004, she was a senior attorney with the Investment Company Institute for 10 years.
