Sentinel Financial Services Names Cronin President

Sentinel Financial Services has named Jim Cronin president, in charge of the firm's sales and distribution strategy. Sentinel Financial is the distribution arm of Sentinel Funds and a division of National Life Group.

Prior to joining Sentinel, Cronin was a senior vice president at MFS Investment Management, in charge of wholesaling the firm's mutual funds, separate accounts and retirement plans through all distribution channels in the Northeast. Before that, he was a senior vice president at Alliance Capital Management, with sales management responsibility for the eastern U.S. Cronin has also worked for AIM Management, LPL Financial Services and American Finance Group.

"Jim is an energetic and very capable executive, and we are very pleased to have him as a key member of the Sentinel management team," said Christian W. Thwaites, chief executive officer of Sentinel.

U.S. Global Investors Hires Dunn for Institutional Sales

Michael S. Dunn has joined U.S. Global Investors as director of institutional services, in charge of the sales team. Previously, he was associate director of development at Tufts University. Before that, he co-founded Elijah Asset Management, where he served as chief operating officer and director of sales, leading a team that raised $1 billion in mutual fund, hedge fund and separate account assets in 18 months.

In 1994, Dunn joined Robertson Stephens as vice president for investment management sales. Previously, he was a regional sales representative at Charles Schwab. He began his career as a registered representative at Fidelity Investments.

"We are making a strong push into the institutional market, which we see as a key component of our strategy of growing our assets under management," said Susan McGee, president of U.S. Global Investors. "The director of institutional services is a critical position."

Firth to Handle iMoneyNet European Sales in London

Katharine Firth has joined iMoneyNet as a European sales representative, based in London. She comes to the firm from LexisNexis Butterworths, where she was a strategic account manager. Before that, as an international account manager at Reed Business Information, she helped launch an online directory of international trading information.

"We are delighted that Katharine has joined our sales team and expect that she will help us achieve our growth objective, as investors in the U.K. and elsewhere in Europe move from using bank accounts to triple-A-rated U.S. dollar, Euro or sterling-denominated money market funds for cash management," said Kevin Grist, sales director of iMoneyNet.

Franklin Templeton Selects Baca as VP, RIA Director

Franklin Templeton Investments has appointed Lincoln Baca as vice president and director of its registered investment advisor division. In this position, Baca will be responsible for selling all of the firm's products to RIAs.

Baca, who has more than 20 years of experience, comes to the firm from Allianz Global Investors/Dresdner RCM, where he was RIA national sales manager.
