JPMorgan Picks Bareau to Oversee Emerging Markets

JPMorgan Asset Management has named former Fortis Investment manager Pierre-Yves Bareau to lead its emerging markets debt unit, following the recent departure of two long-time emerging market bond managers at JPMorgan.

Bareau has nearly 20 years of experience in developing-world fixed-income portfolios, the last 10 of which were spent as Fortis' chief investment officer for emerging market debt.

Bareau's "deep knowledge of the global markets, proven disciplined approach to evaluating opportunities and added focus on emerging market corporate debt will expand J.P. Morgan's reach and capabilities in identifying value in emerging markets," said Bob Michele, global chief investment officer for fixed income.

DTCC Names O'Connor Chief Technology Officer

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. has named Bridget E. O'Connor managing director and chief technology officer.

The information technology role requires O'Connor to oversee core networking, processing and messaging systems, distributed systems, business continuity and post-trade processing capacity, which exceeds 850 million transactions in a single day. That's more than three times the highest peak volumes on the 50 largest stock markets in the U.S.

O'Connor, who assumed the position on Aug. 31, reports to Chief Operating Officer and President William Aimetti.

"Bridget's leadership in developing and maintaining high-quality infrastructure systems and business continuity programs on Wall Street is both well known and highly regarded," Aimetti said.

"As our customers increasingly are headquartered in Europe as well as the U.S., we face new challenges both in extending the reliability and low-cost infrastructure to new customer segments and in supporting new asset classes of financial products worldwide," he added. "Bridget brings the global experience and record of success that we believe will continue to differentiate DTCC in the future."

O'Connor comes to the firm from Lehman Brothers, where she was chief information officer and global head for business continuity, overseeing 6,500 people in four major global locations. She joined the firm in 1997 as senior vice president, global head of e-commerce technology. Before that, she was an applications architect for AT&T Bell Laboratories.

O'Connor replaces Vincent Hilly, who will retire in July 2010 but collaborate with his replacement and work on strategic initiatives until then.

SEC Selects Kroeker as Chief Accountant

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro has named James L. Kroeker as the chief accountant in the SEC's office of chief accountant.

Kroeker will oversee accounting interpretations, international accounting matters and professional practice issues. He replaces Conrad W. Hewitt, who retired in January.

Kroeker has been serving as acting chief accountant since Hewitt's departure and has guided the day-to-day operations of the chief accountant's office during the recent financial crisis. Prior to this role, he served as staff director of the SEC's study on fair value accounting standards.

"I'm pleased that Jim has agreed to serve in this critical role as we continue our efforts to improve our financial reporting system," Schapiro said. "Investors will benefit from Jim's sound judgment and dedication to making financial information more transparent and understandable. He will play an instrumental role as we consider various ways to improve financial reporting to investors."

Kroeker joined the SEC as deputy chief accountant in February 2007 from Deloitte & Touche, where he was a partner in the firm's national office accounting services group.
