Putnam Names Marshall Investment Product Head

Putnam Investments has appointed Kelly Marshall as head of investment product management. Marshall will be responsible for all aspects of product management and development across Putnam's retail, institutional and retirement businesses. She originally joined the firm in 2009 as director of market planning and analytics.

She is replacing Chris Thompson, who has left the Boston-based firm.

Marshall now reports to Jeffrey Carney, head of global marketing, products and retirement. Her responsibilities will also include driving the firm's ongoing commitment to creating and managing innovation investment product solutions to address the needs of Putnam's clients.

"Under Kelly's leadership, Putnam will continue to build a product line-up for clients and investors that seeks to capitalize on unique market opportunities, and address an array of environmental factors, such as longevity, income needs, volatility concerns, inflation fears and more," Carney said.

Marshall's experience includes positions held at Wells Fargo Nikko Investment Advisors, Accenture and Fidelity Investments.

Hatteras Funds Names Jacobs Chief Executive

Alternative investment solution provider Hatteras Funds has named Brian Jacobs chief executive officer.

Jacobs will lead a senior executive team that includes Hatteras President Robert Worthington, Chief Operating Officer Michael Fields and Chief Financial Officer Lance Baker. Jacobs will work closely on overall corporate strategy and investment management with founder and former Chief Executive Officer David Perkins, who will remain chairman.

"Brian is a proven leader with 26 years of broad industry experience who can take Hatteras to the next level," Perkins said. "He will advance our mission to bring institutional-quality alternative investments to financial professionals and their clients, while providing the education and support they need to invest with confidence. We believe alternative investments are now at an inflection point. We want Hatteras to continue to be the choice for financial professionals."

Fidelity Hires Ramanathan, Former Treasury Official

Fidelity Investments has hired a former treasury official to serve as the company's bond director and senior vice president.

Karthik Ramanathan has been the acting assistant secretary for financial markets at the Treasury since 2008 and was director of the Treasury's office of debt management from 2005 to 2008. Prior to the Treasury, Ramanathan spent 10 years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as vice president of the foreign exchange division.

In his most recent role, he oversaw all matters involving Treasury financing, public debt management, Federal regulation of financial markets and related economic matters, including regulatory issues in the government securities, cash, repurchase, derivatives and futures markets.

Ramanathan will report to Christopher Sullivan, president of the bond group.

"In addition to playing an integral role in developing product positioning and strategy, Karthik will serve as the external voice of our organization, articulating our extensive investment capabilities to existing and potential clients," Sullivan said. "He'll be working closely with all of the Fidelity channels that distribute our bond products and strategies and, in particular, will have a keen eye toward further expanding our institutional fixed-income business through Pyramis Global Advisors."
