SEC Promotes Three to Assoc. Regional Directors
The Securities and Exchange Commission has promoted three individuals in its Northeast regional office to associate regional directors. The three individuals, Helene Glotzer, David Rosenfeld and Andrew M. Calamari, were named in response to the June departure of Barry W. Rashkover to private practice and the promotion of Mark K. Schonfeld to director of the Northeast regional office.
Glotzer and Rosenfeld were previously assistant regional directors of enforcement and Calamari was a deputy assistant regional director of enforcement. The Northeast regional office is located in New York.
Said Schonfeld: "I am proud of the exceptional talent in the Commission's Northeast regional office. Helene, David and Andy have made tremendous contributions to the Commission's enforcement program in their careers."
Sutherland, Asbill Hires SEC Regulatory Attorney
Bibb L. Strench, a former regulatory lawyer for the Securities and Exchange Commission, is now a partner with Sutherland Asbill & Brennan's investment management group. Founded in 1924, Sutherland specializes in business law. Strench's area of expertise is securities law, and he is a well-known speaker and author on compliance issues. At the SEC, he worked in the area of investment company and advisor regulation.
Century Capital Recruits Young as Equity Analyst
C.J. Young, a Harvard graduate with seven years of financial services industry experience, has joined Century Capital Management as an equity analyst.
Young becomes a member of an investment research team led by Chief Investment Officer Larry Thorndike and Director of Research Kevin Callahan. The company, which specializes in small-cap equities, sends each of its analysts to visit 80 companies per year to provide what it calls "a differentiated advantage."
Young was previously an equity analyst for Frontier Capital Management and Schroder & Co.
One of Young's best attributes, according to the company, is his experience in working with a team. In fact, from 1991 to 1995, Young played professional hockey for the Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins. He also skated for the 1992 U.S. Olympic hockey team, and is now a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee board.
"Kevin and I were impressed with C.J.'s combination of investment experience, educational background and team orientation," Thorndike said. "We look forward to his contribution to the Century team."
Kung Joins Babson Capital As Managing Director
Babson Capital Management has hired Edward Kung as a manager of alternative products and a managing director. The hedge fund expert brings 12 years of marketing and product development experience to the firm. In his new position, Kung will be responsible for proactively managing and guiding the company's alternative product offerings, and working closely with the marketing and product management groups.
Before Babson, Kung was with PanAgora Asset Management, where he served as a senior manager in product development for hedge funds and other investment products.
"I look forward to working with the Babson Capital team to build on the impressive track record they have posted in alternatives," Kung said.
Since the end of 2001, the company's assets under management in alternative investments have jumped 75% to $15.7 billion.
