Putnam Lovell Appoints Goldberg Managing Dir.

Richard S. Goldberg has joined Putnam Lovell NBF Securities as managing director of investment banking in the financial institutions group. He comes to the company from Sandler O'Neill & Partners, where he was a managing director.

Based in New York, Goldberg reports to Steve C. Pierson, managing director and head of investment banking. Goldberg began his banking career in 1980 with Lehman Brothers and has also worked for Lazard Freres, Wasserstein Perella and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he was managing director and head of the North American financial institutions group.

"We are delighted that Richard is joining us, and we are confident that his talents, complementary coverage and focused, direct experience will prove to be of great benefit to Putnam Lovell and to our clients," Pierson said.

Cassidy Forms Association To Teach About Investing

After 16 years with Lipper, most recently as a senior analyst, Don Cassidy has retired and has launched the Retirement Investing Institute. The not-for-profit organization will cooperate with academic institutions to host seminars for investors at which they will be able to meet with financial planners, portfolio managers and analysts.

Cassidy, who has written five books about investing and is a frequent guest on financial news networks, is also the Colorado program director for the American Association of Individual Investors. He said he hopes the Retirement Investing Institute will reach an even broader audience.

UBS' Powers Joins Morgan Wealth Management Unit

John Powers has joined Morgan Stanley's wealth management group as manager for the Rochester, N.Y., complex, where he now oversees 70 financial advisers in three branch offices and reports to John Egan, Great Lakes district manager.

Powers spent the previous six years at UBS, most recently as branch manager of the Billings, Mont., complex. Before that, he was sales manager in the Scottsdale, Ariz., office, where he helped expand UBS' financial adviser network. Prior to UBS, he spent more than eight years at Prudential Bache.

"We are extremely pleased John has joined Morgan Stanley," Egan said. "His extensive background and experience make him a valuable addition to our team. John's appointment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continue growing our business in the Great Lakes district."

Diversified Hires Steinberg As VP, West Coast Team

Diversified Investment Advisors, an investment advisory firm that specializes in retirement plans and services $74 billion in assets, has hired Lisa Steinberg as vice president, in charge of the West Coast client relationship development team. Steinberg, who has worked in the retirement plan industry for nearly 25 years, joins the company from Watson Wyatt, where she spent two decades working with plan sponsors.

"Lisa brings valuable client management experience to Diversified, having consulted with plan sponsors throughout her career," said Peter Zummo, senior vice president, client relationship development. "We look forward to her leadership in servicing and building lasting relationships with Diversified's growing client base of mid- to large-size organizations."
