American Century Names Lurito Growth Equity CIO

American Century Investments has named Stephen J. Lurito chief investment officer for U.S. growth equity, overseeing 40 investment professionals managing 28 strategies and $30 billion in assets, one-third of American Century's total assets under management. Currently chief investment officer and a partner at MUUS Asset Management, Lurito will join the firm on July 9.

Before MUUS, he was a growth manager and co-chief investment officer at Warburg Pincus Asset Management, a managing director and senior portfolio manager at ForstmannLeff and president of Arlington Capital.

"Steve has significant experience as a growth manager and a strong background in institutional asset management," said Enrique Chang, chief investment officer of American Century. "He's a proven leader who understands how to manage people who manage money."

John Hancock Appoints Vrysen COO, Rizzo CFO

John Hancock Funds has appointed John G. Vrysen chief operating officer, a new position at the firm, and Charles A. Rizzo chief financial officer, reporting to Vrysen.

Rizzo comes to John Hancock from Goldman Sachs, where he was vice president and manager of product services for U.S. registered funds. Before that, he was in charge of the fund treasury group at Deutsche Asset Management. Vrysen, who has been with John Hancock for the past 30 years, previously held the job that Rizzo now has.

Vrysen and Rizzo will oversee mutual funds, variable annuities, group pension plans and variable life insurance.

"Both John and Charles have a wealth of experience and are highly regarded in the industry," said Keith F. Hartstein, president and chief executive officer of John Hancock Funds.

Kamies Heads Nat'l Sales At Integrity Mutual Funds

Integrity Mutual Funds has promoted Mark Kamies to national sales manager of Integrity Funds Distributor. Kamies joined Integrity in 2003 as regional marketing director, Kansas and Missouri. He replaces Franklin Huwe, who is remaining with Integrity as special projects coordinator.

Hartford Reassigns CFO to Wealth Management Unit

The Hartford Financial Services Group has promoted Daniel Andriola to chief financial officer of the institutional solutions group within its U.S. wealth management division.

Previously, he was CFO of The Hartford's private placement business.

"Dan has built a solid financial team for the HLPP, and I am confident that his impressive business background will help the institutional solutions group grow," said Steve Joyce, senior vice president at The Hartford.

Paci Joins DLA Piper's Corporate, Securities Unit

Christopher C. Paci, a former partner with Shearman & Sterling and most recently with King & Spalding, is now a partner with DLA Piper's corporate and securities practice group.

Paci's arrival follows the hiring 2-1/2 months ago of Roger Meltzer as global chairman of the corporate and finance practice. Meltzer was previously with Cahill Gordon & Reindel.
