Fidelity Launches Basket Trading

Investors Can Create Baskets Holding Between Five and 50 Securities

Fidelity Brokerage Services, a division of Fidelity Investments, yesterday began offering basket trading, allowing customers to create baskets of individual securities within their Fidelity account. The minimum investment to create a basket is $10,000 and individuals can hold between five and 50 securities in each basket.

Investors who create baskets will select the securities and can automatically allocate their total investment among the securities with an equal dollar amount or number of shares. The baskets can be traded and tracked in real-time throughout the day and customers can enter multiple orders simultaneously.

'Our new basket offering…allows our customers, particularly our more active and involved investors, to personalize their portfolios and gain more control over their holdings,' said Paul Graham, senior VP of Fidelity Online Brokerage.

There are annual fees to maintain the baskets, however investors will be charged a commission to buy and trade each underlying security. Most Fidelity customers pay $14.95 per transaction, according to the company.

Also, Fidelity is planning to introduce additional features to its basket trading in the coming months, including predefined, style-specific and sector-specific stock baskets.
