Fidelity Rolls Out Two Broad-Based Emerging Markets Funds

Fidelity Investments has introduced two new emerging markets funds, the Fidelity Total Emerging Markets Fund and the Fidelity Emerging Markets Discovery Fund. The first fund invests in equities and bonds, the second in small- and mid-cap stocks.

The Total Emerging Markets Fund will be lead managed by 12-year Fidelity veteran John H. Carlson. Ashish Swarap will managed the Emerging Markets Discovery Fund. Both managers will coordinate their work with on-the-ground Fidelity managers and analysts around the world.

“We appear to be at a unique point in time when emerging economies are poised to reach levels of wealth that may continue to spur consumption, innovation and industry formation within populations that are, in some cases, several times larger than developed countries,” said Brian B. Hogan, president of Fidelity’s equity group.

“Actively managing emerging markets investments requires a substantial research commitment, and Fidelity has significant global research capabilities with investment professionals on the ground in the U.S. and overseas,” Hogan added. “We have been following emerging markets very closely for 20 years and believe they continue to offer one of the most potentially attractive long-term risk/reward profiles.”
