Fidelity Taps Carey to Run Registered Advisor Group

Fidelity Invsetments, the nation's third-largest mutual fund company, last Tuesday named William C. Carey president of its brokerage arm Fidelity Registered Investment Advisor Group.

Carey, 44, previously oversaw the Boston-based fund company's 401(k) plan provider Fidelity Institutional Retirement Services. He will report to Ellyn A. McColgan, president of Fidelity Brokerage Co.

Fidelity RIA Group is one of the nation's top providers of custody and brokerage services for roughly 2,750 advisors with more than $133 billion in assets.

"Our RIA business is an important focus and Bill's appointment underscores our commitment to its expansion in the marketplace," McColgan said in a press release.

From January 2000 to April 2003, Carey served as executive vice president responsible for Fidelity's 401(k) business focused on small companies. Before joining Fidelity, he held senior sales management positions in the retirement and employee benefits group at insurance firm Aetna.
