Former California Treasurer Named to Met West Board

Metropolitan West Capital Management, which has more than $2 billion in assets under management, has appointed former California State Treasurer Matthew Fong to its mutual fund board of directors.

Fong is an addition to Metropolitan West Capital's board and is not replacing anyone, according to the Steve Borowski, a managing partner at the firm.

Fong is currently president of Strategic Advisory Group, a consulting firm for investment and technology companies. He is also an attorney with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter and Hampton, where he specializes in business and government law. Fong also serves as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and is assigned to the Pentagon as the chief of budget and congressional analyses for U.S. Air Force headquarters.

Fong served as California state treasurer from 1990 to 1998. In that role, he managed a $32 billion portfolio and served as a trustee for two public pension funds, CalPers and CalStrs, which held more than $300 billion.

"Matt is a well-known and respected business leader," said MetWest Capital President Gary Lisenbee. "He has extensive expertise in the financial, legal and government arenas, and will be a valuable asset to MetWest Capital Management and its mutual funds."
