Runkle's last day was April 25, a spokeswoman said. The firm provided no explanation for his departure.

“The firm’s policy is not to comment on associates no longer with the firm," Scott Curtis, president of RJFS, said in an email. "Until a permanent RJFS chief compliance officer is identified, Alyssa Meyer and Jason Thackeray, both experienced directors of RJFS compliance, will act as co-CCOs. We’re grateful for Don’s contributions to the firm and wish him well in the future.”

Runkle served as RJFS' chief compliance officer since July 2003, according to his LinkedIn profile -- which still cites Raymond James as his employer.

Runkle began his career at the St. Petersburg, Fla.-based firm in 1993 after working previously as a registered representative at A.G. Edwards & Sons in St. Louis, according to FINRA documents.

RJFS is the independent broker-dealer arm of Raymond James Financial and the third largest IBD by revenue, according to Financial Planning's 2013 survey of the top 50 biggest IBDs.
