Orbitex Management, a management firm specializing in locating international investment opportunities, has hired Kevin P. Meehan as chief operating officer. Meehan will oversee the firm's operations in the U.S., focusing on implementing technology and operations strategy to support the firm's long-term growth objectives. He previously was a manager in the consulting practice of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP.

The John Nuveen Company has announced the early retirement of John Bedford, executive vice president. Bedford joined the firm in January 1997 when Nuveen acquired Flagship Resources of Dayton, where Bedford was chairman and ceo. He was instrumental in the consolidation of Flagship and Nuveen and was responsible for overseeing their combined $53 billion mutual fund, exchange-traded and defined portfolio business.

T. Rowe Price announced that Peter Van Dyke, director of the firm's taxable bond investments group, has retired. Van Dyke joined the firm in 1985 from Johns Hopkins University, where he was a senior engineer in the physics laboratory. He is best known for helping create the T. Rowe Price Spectrum funds, a group of funds-of-funds that invest in other T. Rowe Price Funds. William Reynolds, director of T. Rowe Price's entire fixed-income unit, will ovesee the taxable bond fund unit until a replacement is named.
