iShares’ ETF Market Share Rises to 50.1%

iShares not only remained the biggest exchange-traded fund player in 2009 but expanded its market share from 47.7% at the end of 2008 to 50.1%, according to Morningstar—a remarkable feat given the pace of new entrants and new offerings.

iShares now hold $373 billion, and this is the first time its parent company, Barclays, has expanded the division’s market share since 2006.

There are now nearly 800 ETFs on the market, up from 150 in 2002. iShares offers nearly 190 ETFs.
