Janus announced several appointments within its investment team today, all of which will be effective Feb. 1.

Jim Goff, has been named the firm’s director of research. He will be responsible for overseeing Janus’ research, training the 43-person analyst team and expanding its coverage, according to the firm.

Goff joined Janus in 1988, and has been portfolio manager of the $3.2 billion Janus Enterprise Fund since it was created in 1992. After a return of 121.9% in 1999, the fund yielded –30.5% and –39.9% in 2000 and 2001, according to Morningstar. When Goff assumes his new role, he will no longer manage the fund.

Jonathan Coleman, a research analyst at Janus, will takeover as portfolio manager of the Enterprise Fund. Coleman joined Janus in 1994 and, for three years, was manager of the Janus Venture Fund. In addition to managing the Enterprise Fund, he will also become manager of Goff’s institutional accounts, the company said.

Helen Hayes has been appointed managing director of investments, and will be responsible for the firm’s portfolio management functions. Hayes joined Janus in 1987 and currently serves as manager of Janus’ Worldwide and Overseas Funds. She will continue in those roles in addition to her new responsibilities.

"This structure will ensure that Janus' research-driven culture continues to be instilled throughout our expanding investment team," said Tom Bailey, CEO of the firm, in a statement. "Our analyst staff has nearly doubled during the last four years and it's critical that each and every one of our analysts is exceptionally trained and mentored."
