Key Private Bank builds out investment team

Key Private Bank has hired its first chief investment officer.

The new recruit, George Mateyo, will report to Joe Calabrese who joined the bank in May to assume a new post as national head of investments.

Mateyo was previously the senior director of investments at the Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit multispecialty academic medical center.

Mateyo is charged with establishing investment strategies for both private and institutional clients, expanding the bank's research capabilities and managing the delivery of "solid investment performance through the portfolio management staff," the bank said in an announcement.

"George is an accomplished leader and has had significant experience across all asset classes including alternative investments," Calabrese said in a statement. "He has had much success in growing and managing portfolios, building client-focused, high-performing teams and improving investment performance."

Prior to the Cleveland Clinic, Mateyo served as a senior consultant and managing director of Hartland & Co., an investment consultancy, where he helped shape the strategic direction of the firm and managed many of Hartland's largest relationships, according to Key Private Bank.

Mateyo's boss, Calabrese, joined Key Private Bank from Geller Family Office Services, where he served as chief executive officer from September 2013 to December 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile.
