Majority of Americans Concerned About Retirement

A majority of Americans are concerned that they will not have enough money to retire, a poll by Scottrade found.

Retirement was cited by the largest majority (56%) as their No. 1 financial concern, with 62% reporting that they have not saved enough for retirement.

“It appears that many Americans are hoping for a financially carefree retirement but are not doing much more than dreaming of one,” said Chris X. Moloney, chief marketing officer at Scottrade. “The disparity between what people feel they should have and what they actually have saved could spell a potential retirement crisis.”

However, 90% are taking steps to improve their financial health, be it spending less, paying down debts, cutting back on credit card usage, saving more, working more to earn more or searching for a higher-paying job.
