Matthews Re-Opens Two Funds to New Investors

Investment management firm Matthews it will re-open two of its funds to new investors. The Matthews Asian Growth and Income and the Matthews Asia Small Companies funds will both reopen on Jan. 4, 2012.

The funds were closed to new investors on Jan. 7, 2011 (Asian Growth) and Nov. 12, 2010 (Small Companies) after both had experienced rapid increases in inflows.

“We believe the funds now have the capacity to accept new assets while maintaining the integrity of their investment process,” said Robert Horrocks, Ph.D., Matthews’ chief investment officer and lead manager of the Asian Growth and Income fund.

The Growth and Income fund was launched in 1994, and as of end-November 2011, had a three-star Morningstar rating for the prior three-year period and a five-star Morningstar rating for the five- and 10-year periods in the Pacific/Asia ex-Japan category.

The Small Companies fund was launched in 2008 and had a five-star Morningstar rating as of end-November for the three-year period in the Pacific/Asia ex-Japan category.
