Merrill to Expand Variable Insurance Funds Business

Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) has expanded its variable insurance funds business and is rebranding them under Mercury Advisors, MLIM's non-proprietary brand.

"The insurance channel is an important one for MLIM, and a focus for us as we look to grow our non-proprietary distribution business," said Daniel Dart, chief operating officer for the Americas. "The success we've had in the insurance channel prompted us to expand our product offering and try to better leverage the Mercury brand."

Merrill Lynch, which continues to grow its non-proprietary business, launched six new variable insurance funds in December, joining the existing range of variable insurance funds already under the Mercury Advisors brand name.
