MLIM Americas Retail Names Permanent COO

Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) has named Jerry Miller chief operating officer of MLIM Americas Retail, according to an internal memo. Miller replaces Dennis Reens, who had been serving as interim COO since April.

Reens was named interim COO after Paul Galietto was appointed to COO for the securities services division of Global Markets and Investment Banking (GMI) at Merrill. Reens, who served as deputy head of retail operations for MLIM Americas before being named interim COO, will become head of core proprietary retail sales, and will report to Miller.

Miller's "primary focus will be significantly increasing sales of MLIM products within the U.S. and International Private Client groups," according to the memo. He will be responsible for sales management and strategy, revenue growth, profitability, resource allocation and budgeting for MLIM's proprietary retail businesses. He will report to Mary Taylor, head of MLIM Americas.

Miller was most recently managing director of the Northeast District for Merrill's U.S. Private Client group. The firm expects to announce a replacement for that position shortly, the memo said. He was previously a senior resident vice president in Merrill's office in the World Financial Center Complex.
