Money Market Fund Assets Rose Last Week

Money market fund assets rose $6.38 billion during the week ending Wednesday, Dec. 5, the Investment Company Institute reported today. That increased total money market fund assets to $2.357 trillion.

Assets of retail money market funds increased by $2.44 billion to a total of $1.103 trillion last week, according to the ICI. The vast majority of that ($2.33 billion) came in tax-exempt funds, which rose 1.2% to 192.87 billion. Taxable retail money market funds increased just $111.0 million

Institutional money market funds increased by $3.94 billion and stood at $1.254 trillion after Wednesday. Taxable institutional funds rose $1.42 billion, however that accounts for only .1% of total assets in that category. Tax-exempt institutional funds, on the other hand, rose $2.52 billion last week, or nearly 3% of total assets in that category.
