Money Market Funds Fell By Over $10 Billion Last Week

Money market funds decreased $10.22 billion during the week ending Sept. 5, bringing total assets to $2.128 trillion, the Investment Company Institute reported today.

The decrease came from institutional money market funds, which fell by $16.69 billion, slightly over 1.6% of those total assets. Taxable institutional money market funds dropped by $17.19 billion, while tax-exempt funds increased slightly.

Retail money market funds increased $6.47 billion to $1.092 trillion last week, according to the ICI. In that category, taxable funds increased by $5.77 billion to $903.31 billion. Tax-exempt funds increased by $701.8 million, bringing that total to $188.75 billion.
