New SEC Chairman Reportedly Selected

Harvey Pitt has been selected by President Bush as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to reports published today in The New York Times.
However, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the White House would not confirm those reports.
Pitt is currently a partner with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobsen and works in the firms New York and Washington offices. Prior to joining the firm in 1978, Pitt was the general counsel of the SEC from 1975 to 1978. Pitt joined the SEC in 1971 and served in a variety of roles including executive assistant from 1973 to 1975 to then SEC Chairman Ray Garrett, Jr., chief counsel to the SECs division of market regulation from 1972 to 1973, and special counsel in the office of the general counsel of the SEC from 1971 to 1972.
