Paitchel Named President of Janus International

Jill Paitchel has joined Janus Capital Group as president, Janus International, the company announced Tuesday.

Paitchel joins Janus from Citigroup Asset Management, where she oversaw asset management for retail and high-net-worth clients in Europe, the Mid East and Africa. Her appointment reflects an increasing emphasis on international business, Janus said.

She reports to Erich Gerth, SVP and managing director of Janus Global Adviser. Gerth joined Janus from Goldman Sachs Asset Management in August ( see MME 8/18/03). While Gerth fills a new position at Janus, he replaced CEO Richard Garland, who stepped down amid increasing scrutiny from New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. The investigation centered on e-mails Garland penned about making exceptions for market timing in Janus funds by hedge fund Canary Capital Partners ( see MME 12/8/03).

Paitchel has more than 20 years of experience in the investment industry, including seven with Citigroup, where she also worked as global head of product development. Before that, she spent more than 10 years with Lehman Brothers, where she was head of offshore mutual funds and managed products.

Separately, Gerth also announced the appointment of Amy Martich as national account director for Janus Global Adviser, in charge of building relationships with broker/dealer firms.
