Putnam Adds Redemption, CDSC Fees

Putnam Investments is adding a contingent deferred sales charge and redemption fees to three of its international funds in a move to stave off market timers, according to a company SEC filing.

The firm has added a 1% redemption fee on A and Y shares of its International New Opportunities, Emerging Markets and International Voyager funds. On A shares of the International New Opportunities and International Voyager funds, it will also begin charging investors a 75 basis point CDSC if they redeem 90% of their cumulative investment within two years of the initial purchase, according to the filing.

The added fees are intended to compensate for the costs incurred by frequent market timing, the filing said.
