Putnam Will Launch Tax-Smart Fund

Putnam Investments of Boston has filed a preliminary prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a new fund, the Putnam Tax Smart Value Fund.

The fund will seek long-term growth of capital on an after-tax basis and it will invest primarily in mid-sized and large companies, according to the filing. Putnam Investment Management of Boston will manage the fund.

Putnam Tax Smart Value Fund will invest mainly in value stocks. The fund’s manager will monitor and analyze the fund’s portfolio on an after-tax basis and consider the federal income tax consequences when deciding whether to buy or sell stocks, according to the filing. The fund will invest at least 80 percent of its total assets in equity securities, according to Putnam.
