Small Fund Hires New Marketing Guru

Ron Muhlenkamp, manager of the $500 million Muhlenkamp Fund and founder of Muhlenkamp & Company has hired Celeste Zingarelli as the firm’s new director of marketing, the company announced today.

Zingarelli was hired in early September, but the Wexford, Penn. company delayed its announcement until this week because of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, she said. Zingarelli, who was a principal at consulting firm Strategic Alignment before joining Muhlenkamp, started her career in the banking business at Mellon Financial.

She is now tasked with finding ways to retain Muhlenkamp’s current investors – and garner new ones – by personalizing the firm’s services and offering more investor education resources, she said. To that end, she spent the first days of September mining Muhlenkamp’s database for information about shareholders.

"I thought the most logical thing to do would be to understand who are our direct shareholders and what kinds of relationships [we] have," she said. That includes gathering data on the number of times investors call for information and the types of information those investors seek. She is also looking to the data to find out the "types of accounts that are contained in a shareholder household so we can hold on to those," she said.
