Stadion Unveils ETF Fund of Funds

Stadion Money Management has launched the Stadion Market Opportunity Fund, which will bet on broad market, sector/region and commodity exchange-traded funds. Money Management Executive previously reported on the launch.

The fund was formed through the reorganization of Broadview Heights, Ohio-based Aviemore FundsETF Market Opportunity Fund, which launched in 2004, according to the firm. The Aviemore Funds’ Board of Trustees has approved the transfer of assets into the Stadion fund and the reorganization into the new Stadion fund. Paul Frank, portfolio manager of the ETF Market Opportunity Fund, joined Stadion as a senior portfolio manager.

In an interview with MME, Jud Doherty, president at Stadion, said that the ETF Market Opportunity Fund is complementary to the firm’s portfolio in that it's ETF-based and uses trend-following in a defensive way. “From our standpoint, if you’re a financial advisor, I think it’s a good story because everyone agrees equities are a good way to accumulate wealth but you need a defensive strategy to protect you during tough times," said Doherty.

Doherty also mentioned that Stadion is currently engaged in “causal conversations” with other managers who embody its conservative, non-traditional, tactical ETF-based, team-based, rules-based risk management approach.
