The book is compiled from Chief Correspondent Tobias Salinger's series of 30 stories examining the choices advisors must make when exploring independence — from when to make the move, attracting clients, growing the business and eventually exiting.

"The movement toward independence is still showing strong growth as many advisors look to build firms and cultures that fit their styles and personas," said Brian Wallheimer, editor-in-chief of Financial Planning. "Financial Planning's mission has long been to bring our audience stories that help them make better decisions, grow their firms and develop stronger relationships with clients. This series — and now this book — is a prime example of what we're here to do."

Here's how to get the book:

Salinger's series won a regional bronze award from The American Society of Business Publication Editors for best feature series.
