Stocks Perk Up As Greece Debacle Nears Conclusion

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied up 70.61 points to 12,907.94 Thursday on reports that Greece has all-but-resolved some of its lingering issues with private creditors to ensure the country avoids a disorderly default.

The Nasdaq stormed up 34.73 points to 2,970.42 while the S&P 500 picked up 13.28 points to close at 1,365.91.

Investors were nonplussed by mixed employment reports ahead of Friday’s much-anticipated monthly jobs report.

Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported that total number of planned U.S. job cuts fell 3.3% in February to 51,728, down from 53,486 job cuts announced in January.

However, weekly unemployment claims increased by 8,000 applications last week to a seasonally adjusted 362,000, according to the Labor Department. Economists were expecting that figure to be roughly unchanged at 351,000.
