Strong Financial took home the "Star Award," for Overall Communications Effort, considered the events most prestigious prize, even as the firm is mired in the heart of the worst scandal in the history of the fund industry. Strongs showing was not weak, as it won first-place among large companies in five other categories. TIAA-CREF Mutual Funds was the most frequent winner out of the small companies, while Ariel held the distinction among medium-sized companies.
Fidelity Investments won the inaugural Mutual Fund Education Alliance Community Investment Award, given to the organization with the most outstanding civic contributions, at the seventh annual STAR Awards banquet held Thursday in Chicago.
American Express Funds won the Overall Communications Effort Award for small companies, while Ariel Mutual Funds grabbed the honor among medium companies. The STAR Awards, which honor companies for excellence in shareholder communications, investor education and community investment, have 21 separate categories with as many as three first-place winners for each category.
